Preparation

  1. 1

    Muddle Sugar and Bitters

In a mixing glass, add the sugar and dashes of bitters. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently crush the sugar with the bitters until the sugar begins to dissolve.

  2. 2

    Add Bourbon

Pour the bourbon into the mixing glass with the muddled sugar and bitters. Stir gently to combine the ingredients.

  3. 3

    Add Ice

Add the ice cubes to the mixing glass. Stir the mixture for about 20-30 seconds to chill the drink and further dilute it.

  4. 4

    Strain

Using a strainer, pour the mixture into a chilled rocks glass filled with one large ice cube or fresh ice if desired.

Garnishing

  1. 5

    Prepare Orange Twist

Take a piece of orange peel and twist it over the glass to release the oils. Optionally, you can run the peel around the rim of the glass for added aroma.

  2. 6

    Serve

Place the twisted orange peel on top of the drink as a garnish. Serve immediately and enjoy your Old Fashioned!
