Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Prepare the Squash Puree
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the honeynut squash in half and scoop out the seeds. Place the squash halves cut-side down on a baking sheet. Roast for about 25-30 minutes until tender. Once cooled, scoop out the flesh and blend it until smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of cayenne pepper for spice.
- 2
Make the Flatbread Dough
In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, mix olive oil with water. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for a couple of minutes until smooth.
- 3
Cook the Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the apple & sage sausage until browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and slice into bite-sized pieces.
- 4
Assemble the Flatbread
Roll out the flatbread dough into a large circle or rectangle. Spread a generous layer of the spiced honeynut squash puree on top. Sprinkle with cooked sausage and sharp cheddar cheese.
- 5
Bake the Flatbread
Transfer the flatbread to a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 6
Add Toppings
Once out of the oven, top the flatbread with pickled cranberries and a drizzle of honey before slicing and serving.
