Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Begin by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. After cleaning, peel the potatoes if desired, although leaving the skin on adds flavor. Cut the potatoes into evenly sized sticks, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps to remove excess starch and will make your fries crispier.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil reaches the right temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry and Fry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato sticks and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Carefully add a batch of the dried potatoes to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-6 minutes until they turn golden brown.

  3. 5

    Drain and Season

Once the fries are cooked, remove them from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and paprika to taste.

  4. 6

    Repeat

Repeat the frying process with the remaining batches of potato sticks, ensuring the oil returns to temperature between batches.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve Hot

Transfer the fries to a serving platter and enjoy them hot. You can serve them with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup or mayonnaise.
