Beef Patties

Caramelized Pickles and Onion

Method

Preparing the Beef Patties

  1. 1

    Mix Beef Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to combine without overworking the meat.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty, about 4 oz each. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.

Caramelizing Pickles and Onion

  1. 3

    Sauté Onions

In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and cook until they start to soften, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 4

    Caramelize Mixture

Add the sliced pickles, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to combine and continue to cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until the onions are caramelized and the pickles are heated through.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 5

    Cook Patties

Heat a grill or heavy skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 3-4 minutes on one side until browned. If using cheese, place a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

  2. 6

    Flip Patties

Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes on the other side, or until desired doneness is reached.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 7

    Toast Buns

Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Assemble Burger

Place one beef patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with the caramelized pickles and onion mixture, and add lettuce and tomato if desired.

  3. 9

    Serve

Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
