Method

Preparing the Batter

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vegetable oil until smooth.

  3. 3

    Make the Batter

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are fine.

Preparing Hot Dogs

  1. 4

    Skewer the Hot Dogs

Insert a wooden skewer into each mini hot dog, leaving enough of the stick exposed for easy handling. This will be your corn dog handle.

Frying the Corn Dogs

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a deep saucepan or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Coat Hot Dogs

Dip each skewered hot dog into the batter, ensuring it is completely coated.

  3. 7

    Fry Corn Dogs

Carefully place the battered hot dog into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.

  4. 8

    Drain and Cool

Once fried, remove the corn dogs from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
