Method

Cooking the Steak

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the 6 oz. top sirloin steak out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking. This helps the steak cook more evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Rub the steak with olive oil on both sides. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder evenly over the surface of the steak. Then, sprinkle the fresh rosemary on top.

  3. 3

    Heat the Pan

Place a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and allow it to heat up for about 5 minutes. You can add a little more olive oil if desired to prevent sticking.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steak

Once the pan is hot, carefully place the seasoned steak in the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare. Adjust cooking time for desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the pan and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute before slicing.

Optional Sides Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare Asparagus

While the steak is resting, wash the asparagus and trim the ends. You can sauté it in the same skillet with a bit of olive oil for 5 minutes or steam it until tender.

  2. 7

    Prepare Mashed Potatoes

If serving mashed potatoes, boil peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper to taste.
