Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the apples

Wash the fresh apples thoroughly under cold running water. Cut them into quarters, removing the core and seeds.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a large pot, combine the quartered apples with 500 ml of water. Make sure the apples are submerged in the water.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Simmer the mixture

Bring the pot to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  2. 4

    Add spices

After 30 minutes, add the cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, and grated ginger to the pot. Stir well and continue to simmer for another 15 minutes.

Straining and Sweetening

  1. 5

    Strain the cider

Once the mixture has simmered, remove it from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the apple mixture into a large bowl, discarding the solids.

  2. 6

    Sweeten the cider

While the cider is still warm, stir in the brown sugar and honey until fully dissolved.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve warm

Pour the hot apple cider into mugs and serve immediately. Optionally, garnish with a cinnamon stick or a slice of apple.
