Marinara Sauce

Cooking Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4-6 quarts of salted water to a rolling boil.

Cook Pasta
Add the spaghetti or ziti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.
Making Marinara Sauce

Heat Oil
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.

Sauté Garlic
Once the oil is hot, add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, and add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

Simmer Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combining and Serving

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained pasta to the marinara sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

Serve
Serve hot, garnished with fresh chopped basil if desired.
