Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix Filling

In a bowl, combine pulled BBQ pork, pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, dried oregano, and black pepper. Mix well until combined.

Assembling Calzones

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 7

    Divide Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces.

  3. 8

    Roll Out Dough

On a floured surface, roll each piece of dough into a circle about 8 inches in diameter.

  4. 9

    Fill Calzones

Place a quarter of the filling mixture on one half of each dough circle, leaving a border for sealing.

  5. 10

    Seal Calzones

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal. Crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative touch.

  6. 11

    Brush with Egg Wash

Brush the tops of the calzones with the beaten egg and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.

Baking

  1. 12

    Bake Calzones

Place the calzones on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  2. 13

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Pulled BBQ Pork Calzones!
