Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Form Dough

Gradually mix the flour into the wet ingredients until a dough begins to form. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare Filling

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing the pizza sauce, diced ham, and diced pineapple in a bowl.

  2. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while you prepare the calzone.

Calzone Assembly

  1. 7

    Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions and roll each portion into a circle about 10 inches in diameter.

  2. 8

    Fill Calzone

Spread half of the pizza sauce mixture on one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge. Top with 3/4 cup of cheese on each half.

  3. 9

    Seal Calzone

Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal. You can crimp the edges with a fork for a decorative touch.

Baking

  1. 10

    Prepare for Baking

Transfer the calzones to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with olive oil and sprinkle with dried oregano and grated Parmesan cheese.

  2. 11

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 12

    Cool and Serve

Remove the calzones from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
