Method
Preparing the Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Stir in the active dry yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Making the Filling
- 5
Prepare Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped grilled chicken, crumbled bacon, ranch dressing, shredded cheese, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
Assembling the Calzone
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- 7
Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll each portion out into a circle on a floured surface.
- 8
Fill the Calzone
On one half of each dough circle, spoon a generous amount of filling, leaving a border around the edge. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
Baking
- 9
Bake the Calzones
Transfer the calzones to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- 10
Cool and Serve
Once baked, allow the calzones to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with additional ranch dressing on the side, if desired.
