Bread Sticks

Method

Bread Sticks Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, garlic powder, and dried Italian herbs. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Bread Sticks

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Cut into strips and shape them into sticks.

  6. 6

    Add Toppings

Place the breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with olive oil and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 8

    Heat Olive Oil

In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil and minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant (about 1 minute).

  2. 9

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.

  3. 10

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 11

    Finish with Basil

Stir in the chopped fresh basil before serving.
