Noodles and Soup Base

Char Siu Pork

Wontons

Garnish

Method

Char Siu Pork

  1. 1

    Prepare the Char Siu Pork

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a bowl, mix the char siu sauce, honey, and five-spice powder. Rub this mixture over the pork shoulder. Place the pork on a baking tray and roast for about 45 minutes or until cooked through, basting occasionally with the sauce.

Wontons

  1. 2

    Make the Wontons

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, green onion, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, and salt. Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of a wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges with water, fold to seal, and pinch to ensure they are tight. Repeat until all filling is used.

Noodles and Soup Base

  1. 3

    Prepare the Soup Base

In a large pot, bring the water and chicken broth to a boil. Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the shrimp and set aside. Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Add the island style noodles and cook according to package instructions.

Cook the Wontons

  1. 4

    Boil the Wontons

In a separate pot, bring water to a boil. Gently add the prepared wontons and cook for about 5-6 minutes or until they float to the top and are cooked through. Remove and drain.

Assemble the Dish

  1. 5

    Combine Everything

In a bowl, place a serving of noodles, pour the shrimp soup base over, add the wontons, sliced char siu pork, fish cake, and garnish with sliced green onion. Serve hot.
