Method
Preparing the Potatoes
- 1
Wash and Peel the Potatoes
Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under cold water. Peel the skin off using a vegetable peeler.
- 2
Cut the Potatoes
Cut the peeled potatoes into even strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
- 3
Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut potato strips in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch.
- 4
Dry the Potatoes
Drain the soaked potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.
Frying the Potatoes
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep frying pot, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C) over medium-high heat.
- 6
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of dried potato strips to the hot oil. Fry them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain the Fries
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- 8
Season the Fries
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and pepper to taste.
Serving
- 9
Serve the Fries
Transfer the fries to a serving platter. Serve hot with your choice of optional toppings such as ketchup, malt vinegar, or mayonnaise.
