Method
Preparation
- 1
Rinse the Cranberries
Place the fresh cranberries in a colander and rinse them thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
- 2
Combine Ingredients
In a large pot, combine the rinsed cranberries and 4 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
Cooking
- 3
Simmer the Mixture
Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and softened.
- 4
Strain the Juice
After simmering, remove the pot from heat. Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the mixture into a large bowl or pitcher. Press down on the solids to extract as much juice as possible.
Finishing Touches
- 5
Sweeten the Juice
Return the strained juice to the pot. Add 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- 6
Cool and Serve
Let the cranberry juice cool to room temperature before refrigerating. Serve chilled over ice or mixed with sparkling water if desired.
