Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Add Salt

Once the water is boiling, add 1 tsp of salt.

  3. 3

    Cook Pasta

Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes until al dente.

  4. 4

    Drain Pasta

Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 5

    Melt Butter

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter.

  2. 6

    Add Flour

Stir in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux.

  3. 7

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.

  4. 8

    Thicken Sauce

Continue to cook the mixture, stirring frequently until it thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. 9

    Add Cheese and Seasoning

Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 tsp of salt, 0.5 tsp of black pepper, and 0.5 tsp of paprika until smooth.

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the cheese sauce, mixing well to coat.
