Method
Meatballs
- 1
Prepare the Meatball Mixture
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.
- 2
Form the Meatballs
Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 3
Bake the Meatballs
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until they are browned and cooked through.
Spaghetti
- 4
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring 4 quarts of water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt.
- 5
Cook the Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 6
Drain the Spaghetti
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Tomato Sauce
- 7
Sauté the Onions and Garlic
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes.
- 8
Add the Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Combine Sauce and Meatballs
Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the tomato sauce. Let them simmer together for another 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
Assembly
- 10
Serve the Dish
On a plate, serve the spaghetti topped with the meatballs and tomato sauce. Garnish with additional parsley or Parmesan cheese if desired.
