Cream Cheese Spread Ingredients
Method
Bagel Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the activated yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape Bagels
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then poke a hole in the center to shape it into a bagel. Stretch the hole slightly to ensure it won’t close during baking.
- 6
Boil Bagels
Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the cornmeal to prevent sticking. Boil each bagel for about 1-2 minutes on each side, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
- 7
Bake Bagels
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the boiled bagels for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
Cream Cheese Preparation
- 8
Soften Cream Cheese
Take the cream cheese out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften.
- 9
Mix Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, fresh chives (if using), garlic powder (if using), and salt and black pepper to taste. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- 10
Serve
Spread the cream cheese mixture generously on the warm bagels and enjoy!
