Method

Hot Chocolate Preparation

  1. 1

    Heat the Milk

In a small saucepan, heat 2 cups of milk over medium heat until it's hot but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent scalding.

  2. 2

    Mix Cocoa and Sugar

In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Once the milk is hot, gradually add the cocoa and sugar mixture to the saucepan, whisking continuously until fully dissolved.

  4. 4

    Add Flavor

Stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Continue to heat for another minute, then remove from heat.

Whipped Cream Preparation

  1. 5

    Whip the Cream

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

  2. 6

    Beat the Cream

Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the cream mixture until soft peaks form. Be careful not to over-whip, or it will turn into butter.

Serving

  1. 7

    Serve the Hot Chocolate

Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with a generous dollop of whipped cream. Optionally, sprinkle some cocoa powder or chocolate shavings on top for garnish.
