Clam Strips

Method

Preparing Clam Strips

  1. 1

    Clean the Clam Strips

Rinse the fresh clam strips under cold water to remove any sand or grit. Pat them dry using paper towels.

  2. 2

    Prepare Breading Station

Set up three separate bowls. In the first bowl, place the all-purpose flour mixed with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. In the second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In the third bowl, add the cornmeal.

Frying Clam Strips

  1. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large, deep skillet or frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accurate measurement.

  2. 4

    Bread the Clam Strips

Take each clam strip and coat it in the flour mixture first, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with cornmeal. Ensure each strip is well-coated.

  3. 5

    Fry the Clam Strips

Carefully place the breaded clam strips into the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Making Cocktail Sauce

  1. 6

    Mix Ingredients

In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish sauce, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir until well blended.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Dish

Serve the crispy fried clam strips on a plate along with a small bowl of cocktail sauce for dipping.
