Method
Country Fried Steak
- 1
Prepare the Steak
Begin by seasoning the beef cube steaks with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder on both sides.
- 2
Dredging
In a shallow dish, place the all-purpose flour. Dredge each seasoned steak in the flour, ensuring they are fully coated.
- 3
Frying the Steaks
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the floured steaks and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the steaks and set aside.
Spicy Sausage Gravy
- 4
Crumble and Cook Sausage
In the same skillet used for frying the steaks, reduce heat to medium. Add the breakfast sausage and crumble it with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through.
- 5
Make the Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir well to combine. Cook for about 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
- 6
Add Milk and Season
Gradually add the milk while continuously stirring to avoid lumps. Add red pepper flakes, salt, black pepper, and sage. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Eggs
- 7
Cook the Eggs
In a small frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the pan and cook to your desired doneness (sunny-side up, over-easy, etc.). Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
