Method
Prepare the Salad Base
- 1
Wash and Prepare Lettuce
Rinse the crisp green lettuce leaves thoroughly under cold water. Pat them dry with a paper towel and tear them into bite-sized pieces. Place them in a large salad bowl.
- 2
Slice Tomatoes
Wash the tomatoes, then slice them into thin rounds. Set aside for plating.
- 3
Prepare Pita Bread
Cut each pita bread in half to create pockets. Optionally, you can warm them slightly in a toaster or on a skillet for a few minutes.
Make the Chicken or Tuna Salad
- 4
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the canned tuna (drained) or shredded cooked chicken breast, mayonnaise, diced celery, diced red onion, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice.
- 5
Mix Well
Using a spatula or mixing spoon, stir all the ingredients together until well combined. Adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper if necessary.
- 6
Chill (Optional)
For enhanced flavor, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the salad for about 30 minutes before serving.
Assemble the Plate
- 7
Layer the Salad
On each serving plate, place a generous amount of the salad mixture on top of the prepared lettuce.
- 8
Add Tomato Slices
Arrange the sliced tomatoes around the salad on the plate.
- 9
Add Cottage Cheese and Fruit
Spoon cottage cheese next to the salad and garnish with assorted fresh fruit.
- 10
Serve with Pita Bread
Place the pita bread halves on the side of the plate for serving.
