Burger Patty Preparation

Mash the Black Beans
In a large mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, leaving some chunks for texture.

Mix Ingredients
Add breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and the egg to the mashed beans. Mix until well combined.

Form Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form each portion into a patty.
Cooking the Burger

Cook the Patties
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each patty for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Add Cheese
In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to melt the cheese.

Prepare Sweet Potatoes
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a bowl, toss sweet potato fries with olive oil, salt, and paprika until evenly coated.

Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy.
