Method

For the Monte Cristo Sandwich

  1. 1

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.

  2. 2

    Assemble the Sandwich

Layer the sliced ham, turkey or chicken, and Swiss cheese between two slices of bread. Top with another slice of bread to form a sandwich.

  3. 3

    Coat the Sandwich

Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated.

  4. 4

    Cook the Sandwich

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the coated sandwiches and cook until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.

  5. 5

    Serve

Once cooked, remove from the skillet, dust with powdered sugar, and cut in half if desired.

For the Hashbrowns

  1. 6

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and grate the potatoes into a bowl. Rinse with cold water to remove excess starch and then drain well.

  2. 7

    Cook the Hashbrowns

In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the grated potatoes and diced onion. Press down to form a flat layer and cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 8

    Season

Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown and crispy, approximately another 5-7 minutes.

  4. 9

    Serve

Remove the hashbrowns from the skillet and serve alongside the Monte Cristo sandwich.
