Method

For Buttermilk Hot Cakes

  1. 1

    Prepare the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Batter

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  4. 4

    Cook the Hot Cakes

Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each hot cake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, then flip and cook until golden brown on the other side.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve warm with syrup, butter, or your favorite toppings.

For Texas French Toast

  1. 6

    Prepare the Egg Mixture

In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

  2. 7

    Soak the Bread

Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.

  3. 8

    Cook the French Toast

Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the soaked bread slices and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  4. 9

    Serve

Serve warm with syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.

For Sides

  1. 10

    Cook Bacon or Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy or the sausage links until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.

  2. 11

    Cook Ham

For ham, simply heat slices in the skillet for 2-3 minutes on each side until warmed through.

  3. 12

    Fry Eggs

In the same skillet, crack eggs and cook to your preferred doneness (sunny-side up, over-easy, etc.).
