Method

Preparing Hot Cakes

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the egg and then add the milk and melted butter. Mix until combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. The batter should be slightly lumpy. If using blueberries or chocolate chips, fold them in gently.

  4. 4

    Cook Hot Cakes

Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each hot cake onto the skillet. Cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Serve Hot Cakes

Remove hot cakes from the skillet and keep warm. Serve with syrup, butter, or your choice of toppings.

Preparing Protein Option

  1. 6

    Cook Bacon or Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, cook bacon slices until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. For sausage links, cook according to package instructions until browned and cooked through.

  2. 7

    Cook Ham or Eggs

If using ham, simply heat slices in the skillet for 1-2 minutes on each side until warmed. For eggs, crack into the skillet and cook to your desired doneness (scrambled, sunny-side-up, etc.).

  3. 8

    Serve Protein Option

Once cooked, serve the protein option alongside the hot cakes for a complete meal.
