Matcha Concentrate
Assembly
Method
Matcha Concentrate
- 1
Sift matcha (optional but recommended)
Place 2 tsp matcha powder through a fine sieve into a small bowl to remove lumps. This helps ensure a smooth tea.
- 2
Whisk matcha with hot water
Add 6 tbsp hot water (about 80°C / 175°F) to the sifted matcha. Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small handheld whisk, whisk vigorously in a zig-zag (M or W) motion for 15–30 seconds until the matcha is uniformly suspended and a light froth appears on the surface.
- 3
Sweeten
Stir in 1 tsp granulated sugar (or 1 tsp simple syrup) into the hot matcha until dissolved. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired. Let the concentrate cool slightly (2–3 minutes).
Assembly
- 4
Fill a tall glass with 1 cup ice cubes.
- 5
Pour the 10 fl oz (about 300 ml) cold water over the ice.
- 6
Slowly pour the prepared matcha concentrate over the cold water and ice. The matcha will float and diffuse, creating a layered look; stir gently with a spoon or straw to combine before drinking.
- 7
Garnish with a lemon slice or a sprig of mint if desired. Serve immediately.
