Preparation
Harvesting Grapes
Harvest the Chardonnay grapes from the vineyard, ensuring they are ripe and free from blemishes.
Crushing Grapes
Crush the grapes in a fermentation vessel to extract the juice. This can be done manually or using a crusher.
Adding Yeast and Sulfur Dioxide
Add the yeast and sulfur dioxide to the crushed grape juice to prevent spoilage and start fermentation.
Fermentation
Fermenting the Juice
Cover the fermentation vessel with a lid and let it ferment for about 2-3 weeks at a controlled temperature of around 18-20°C.
Monitoring Fermentation
Use a hydrometer to monitor the specific gravity of the wine and ensure fermentation is progressing.
Finishing
Filtering
After fermentation is complete, filter the wine to remove any sediment.
Bottling
Bottle the filtered wine in clean bottles and seal them with corks. Store in a cool, dark place.
