Prepare the Meat

Cook the Meat
In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef, chicken breast, or pork shoulder. Cook until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as necessary.

Add Seasoning
Once the meat is cooked, drain excess fat if necessary. Add chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to the meat. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
Prepare Taco Shells

Heat Soft Tortillas
If using soft tortillas, heat them in a skillet for about 30 seconds on each side until warm and pliable.

Prepare Crunchy Shells
If using crunchy taco shells, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake according to package instructions until crispy.
Assemble Tacos

Fill the Shells
Take a taco shell and add a generous portion of the cooked meat mixture.

Add Toppings
Top the meat with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, and fresh cilantro as desired.
