Method
Sauce Preparation
- 1
Heat Olive Oil
In a large skillet over medium heat, add 2 tbsp of olive oil.
- 2
Sauté Garlic
Add the minced garlic cloves to the skillet and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn.
- 3
Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned whole tomatoes, crushing them gently with your hands as you add them to the skillet.
- 4
Season the Sauce
Stir in the salt, sugar, and freshly ground black pepper. Allow the sauce to simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 5
Add Basil
In the last 5 minutes of cooking, add the torn fresh basil leaves to the sauce and stir well.
Pasta Cooking
- 6
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add 1 tbsp of salt.
- 7
Cook Pasta
Add the campanelle pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.
- 8
Drain Pasta
Once the pasta is cooked, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta in a colander.
- 9
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained pasta to the skillet with the pomodoro sauce. Toss to combine, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time if needed to loosen the sauce.
