Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened. Then add the pork shoulder and sear on all sides until browned.

  2. 2

    Add Ingredients

Stir in the green chiles, chicken broth, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.

  3. 3

    Simmer the Soup

Reduce heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 2 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds.

  4. 4

    Shred the Pork

Remove the pork from the pot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded pork to the pot and stir well.

  5. 5

    Serve

Ladle the soup into bowls and top with diced avocado, chopped cilantro, and shredded cheddar cheese. Serve with tortillas, toast, or waffles on the side.
