1

Build and stir

Chill an old-fashioned (rocks) glass by filling it with ice and setting it aside, or place it in the freezer for a few minutes. In a mixing glass combine 2 oz Bulleit Bourbon, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters. Fill the mixing glass with enough ice to come near the rim. Stir gently for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted, and the mixing glass is frosted on the outside.

2

Prepare glass and garnish

Discard the ice from the chilled old-fashioned glass. Place one large ice cube (or several large ice cubes) into the glass.

3

Strain and finish

Strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube. Express the oils from one piece of orange peel by holding it over the drink, skin side down, and giving it a firm twist about 6 inches above the surface so the oils spray onto the drink; rub the peel around the rim if desired, then drop the peel into the glass as garnish. Serve immediately.
