Method
Cocktail preparation
Measure and combine
Add 2 oz London dry gin, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes orange bitters into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with about 6 ice cubes, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 10β15 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the exterior shows condensation.
Double strain and serve
Fine-strain the contents of the shaker into the chilled glass using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer (or a single fine strainer) to remove small ice chips and any pulp from the lime.
Garnish
Float a lime wheel or place a lime twist on the rim. Optionally place an edible flower gently on the surface for a theatrical 'Wilde' presentation. Serve immediately.
Notes & variations
To make simple syrup: combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan, warm until sugar dissolves, cool before using. For a drier cocktail, reduce simple syrup to 0.25 oz. Swap lime for lemon for a brighter profile, or use floral gin to amplify the edible flower garnish.
