Preparation

  1. 1

Remove the Prime Rib from the Fridge

Take the prime rib roast out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 1-2 hours before cooking. This will ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to prepare for roasting.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Seasoning Mix

In a small bowl, combine kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, chopped fresh rosemary, chopped fresh thyme, and olive oil. Mix well to form a paste.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Season the Roast

Rub the seasoning mixture all over the prime rib roast, ensuring that it is evenly coated on all sides.

  2. 5

    Roast the Prime Rib

Place the prime rib roast on a rack in a roasting pan, bone-side down. Insert the pan into the preheated oven and roast at 450°F (232°C) for 20 minutes.

  3. 6

    Lower the Temperature

After 20 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue roasting for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare.

  4. 7

    Rest the Meat

Once the desired internal temperature is reached, remove the roast from the oven and cover it loosely with aluminum foil. Let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes before slicing.

Serving

  1. 8

    Slice and Serve

After resting, slice the prime rib roast against the grain into thick slices. Serve with your favorite sides and enjoy!
