Pork Rinds
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork Skin
Start by cleaning the pork skin thoroughly under cold running water. Remove any remaining hair and excess fat. Pat the skin dry with paper towels.
- 2
Cut the Skin
Using a sharp knife, cut the pork skin into small strips or bite-sized pieces to ensure even cooking.
- 3
Season the Skin
Sprinkle the cut pork skin with salt, ensuring all pieces are evenly coated. If desired, add the optional seasoning at this stage.
Cooking
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep frying pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small piece of pork skin into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.
- 5
Fry the Pork Rinds
Carefully add the seasoned pork skin pieces to the hot oil in batches. Fry them for about 3-5 minutes or until they puff up and turn golden brown.
- 6
Drain the Rinds
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried pork rinds from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 7
Cool and Serve
Allow the pork rinds to cool for a few minutes. They can be served plain or tossed with additional seasoning if desired.
