Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Gather all the ingredients for the mozzarella sticks. Cut the mozzarella cheese into sticks if not pre-cut.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese Sticks

Dip each mozzarella stick first into the flour, coating it completely. Shake off the excess flour, then dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the stick in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Freeze the Cheese Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

In a deep pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks (do not overcrowd). Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Cook the Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil. Once hot, add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, add fresh basil during the last 5 minutes of cooking.

  4. 9

    Serve

Once the mozzarella sticks are cooked and the marinara sauce is ready, serve the mozzarella sticks hot with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
