Potatoes

Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cutting the Potatoes

Cut the potatoes into uniform strips, about 1/4 inch thick. This ensures even cooking.

  3. 3

    Soaking

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

Frying the Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Remove as much moisture as possible to prevent oil splatter.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of potatoes to the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Once cooked, remove the fries from the oil and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate. Immediately sprinkle with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

  5. 8

    Repeat

Repeat the frying process with the remaining potatoes until all are cooked.

Serving

  1. 9

    Serve Hot

Serve the fries hot with your choice of dipping sauce, such as ketchup or aioli.
