Method

Veggie Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth, with some chunks remaining.

  2. 2

    Mix the Patty Ingredients

Add cooked quinoa, diced bell pepper, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, bread crumbs, cumin powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed beans. Mix well until combined.

  3. 3

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1 inch thick.

  4. 4

    Chill the Patties

Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them hold together during grilling.

Grilling the Patties

  1. 5

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

  2. 6

    Oil the Grill

Brush the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.

  3. 7

    Grill the Patties

Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and heated through.

Burger Assembly

  1. 8

    Prepare the Buns

While the patties are grilling, slice the whole wheat burger buns in half.

  2. 9

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer leafy green lettuce, a grilled veggie patty, sliced tomato, avocado, red onion, and pickles. Top with ketchup and mustard, then place the top half of the bun on each burger.
