Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Baking Pans

Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  4. 4

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.

  5. 5

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  6. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients.

  7. 7

    Pour Batter into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

  8. 8

    Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. 9

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 10

    Make the Frosting

In a large mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the heavy cream, and beat until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 11

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 12

    Decorate (Optional)

Optionally, decorate with sprinkles, fresh fruit, or chocolate shavings as desired.
