- 1
Prepare the Oven and Pans
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
- 4
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 5
Add Boiling Water
Slowly stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
- 6
Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cakes
Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Ganache
- 8
Heat the Cream
In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- 9
Melt the Chocolate
Place the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and let it sit for 5 minutes to soften.
- 10
Stir Until Smooth
After 5 minutes, stir the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the ganache is smooth.
- 11
Cool the Ganache
Let the ganache cool at room temperature or in the refrigerator until it thickens slightly, but is still pourable.
