Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice water and set aside while you build the cocktail (about 3–5 minutes).

  2. 2

    Mix

Add the vodka, Galliano, white crème de cacao, cherry liqueur (or maraschino syrup), fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and cherry bitters into a cocktail shaker.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is frosty and well chilled.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass (finish)

Dump the ice water from the chilled glass and, if you like, strain a few drops of the cocktail into the empty glass to wet the rim and discard.

  5. 5

    Strain and garnish

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove tiny ice shards. Garnish with a Luxardo or maraschino cherry placed on a cocktail pick and rest across the rim or dropped into the drink.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately. The drink should be smooth, subtly sweet with herbal-anise notes from the Galliano, cocoa background from the crème de cacao, and a hint of cherry and citrus balance.
