Cake Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust them with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate and Butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the large eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract. Slowly add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring continuously to combine. Then, fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  7. 7

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate, allowing the cakes to release. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
