Smoothie Base

Method

Prep

1

Prepare fruit and add-ins

If you haven't already frozen the banana and berries, slice the banana and place in the freezer for at least 1–2 hours. Measure out Greek yogurt, milk, sweetener, and any optional add-ins (spinach, flax or chia).

2

If using fresh fruit instead of frozen, add 4–6 ice cubes to ensure a thick, cold texture.

Blend

3

Layer ingredients in blender

Add liquids first: pour the milk into the blender. Add Greek yogurt next. Add honey/maple syrup, vanilla extract, and lemon juice (if using). This helps prevent the blades from stalling.

4

Add frozen banana slices and frozen mixed berries on top of the liquid layer. If using spinach or seeds, add them now. Add ice cubes only if using fresh fruit.

5

Blend to smooth

Secure the lid and blend on high for 30–60 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. Blend until smooth and thick, with no large fruit chunks. If the mixture is too thick to blend, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached. If it is too thin, add a few more frozen berries or a small handful of ice and blend again.

Serve

6

Pour the smoothie into a tall glass. Garnish with a fresh berry or banana slice and a mint leaf if desired.

7

Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
