Fries, Cheese, and Gravy
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Fries
Wash and cut the Russet potatoes into thick strips. Rinse in cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- 2
Fry the Potatoes
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato strips in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt.
- 3
Make the Gravy
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in the beef broth (or vegetable broth for veggie gravy), soy sauce, black pepper, and garlic powder. Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
- 4
Assemble the Poutine
Place a generous portion of fries on a plate, sprinkle cheese curds over the top, and pour hot gravy over everything. Serve immediately.
