Method
Prep
Bring ingredients to room temperature
If peanut butter or marshmallow creme are cold and stiff, let them sit at room temperature for 10 minutes so they’re easier to spread.
Lay out 4 slices of bread on a clean work surface. Have knife or spatula ready for spreading. If using banana, slice thinly and set aside. If using bacon, have cooked bacon ready.
Assemble Sandwich
Spread 3 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter evenly over one side of two slices of bread. Make sure to reach the edges for full flavor in every bite.
Spread 3 tablespoons of marshmallow creme over one side of the remaining two slices of bread. Use a clean knife or spatula so the peanut butter doesn't mix into the jar.
If using optional add-ins: arrange banana slices on top of the peanut butter (about 1/4 cup per sandwich half), or place 1–2 strips of cooked bacon on the peanut butter. If adding jam, spread 1/2 tablespoon of jam on the marshmallow side before closing.
Close sandwiches by placing the marshmallow-covered slice on top of the peanut-buttered slice, marshmallow side facing peanut butter. Press gently to adhere.
If you like the sandwich untoasted, cut each sandwich diagonally or down the middle and serve immediately. Sprinkle a very small pinch (about 1/8–1/4 tsp) of coarse sea salt over the exposed marshmallow or peanut butter if desired to add contrast.
Toasted (optional)
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Spread 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter evenly over the outside face of each sandwich (both top and bottom).
Place sandwich in the skillet and cook 2–3 minutes per side, pressing lightly with a spatula, until bread is golden-brown and marshmallow creme softens and warms. Reduce heat if bread browns too quickly before the center warms.
Remove from skillet and let rest 1 minute, then slice and serve. If desired, sprinkle the coarse sea salt over the cut surface to heighten flavor.
