Burger Assembly

Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use your hands to mix the ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty that is about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or the skillet to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the cheese is melted.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a leaf of leafy lettuce, followed by a burger patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, a few pickles, and condiments like ketchup and mustard to taste. Top with the other half of the bun.
