Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Topping the Pizza
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone inside if you have one.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll or stretch it into a 12-inch round.
- 8
Add Sauce and Cheese
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them over the sauce.
- 9
Add Olive Oil and Basil
Drizzle olive oil over the top and scatter fresh basil leaves on the pizza.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 11
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
