Method
Preparing the Potatoes
- 1
Wash and Cut Potatoes
Wash the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt. Cut each potato into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

- 3
Dry Potatoes
After soaking, drain the water and lay the potato strips on a clean kitchen towel. Pat them dry to remove any excess moisture.
Frying the Potatoes
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small piece of potato into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

Drain the Fries
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil. Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder while they are still hot.
Adding Cheese
- 7
Melt the Cheese
Once the fries are ready, you can melt the shredded cheddar cheese over the hot fries. You can do this by placing the fries in an oven-safe dish, sprinkling the cheese on top, and broiling them in the oven for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted.

Serve
Remove the cheesy fries from the oven and serve immediately while hot. Enjoy your delicious French fries with melted cheese!
