Method
Cake Preparation
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well combined.
Add Wet Ingredients
Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes until well blended.
Incorporate Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
Pour and Bake
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
Make the Frosting
In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add in the unsweetened cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the whole milk, and mix until smooth and spreadable. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Frost the Cake
Once the cakes have completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
Serve
Slice the cake and serve to enjoy your rich and moist chocolate cake!
