Danish Pastry Dough

Cheese Filling

Topping (optional)

Method

Danish Pastry Dough

1

Prepare the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.

2

Add Wet Ingredients

Warm the milk until it's just warm to the touch (about 110°F). Add the warm milk and melted butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until combined.

3

Incorporate Eggs

Beat in the eggs one at a time until the mixture is well combined. The dough should be slightly sticky.

4

Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

5

Roll Out the Dough

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

Cheese Filling

6

Prepare the Filling

In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and the egg yolk. Mix until well combined.

7

Fill the Pastry

Cut the rolled-out dough into squares or triangles. Place a spoonful of the cheese filling in the center of each piece and fold the corners over, pinching to seal.

Bake the Danish

8

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

9

Bake the Pastries

Place the filled pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

Topping (optional)

10

Prepare the Glaze

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

11

Glaze the Pastries

Once the Danish pastries are cool, drizzle the glaze over the top before serving.
